  1. Hows the axis lock on the bm940ti clone compared to the 535 bugout clone?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It feels more sturdy and the omega springs are also stronger.

  2. Bm940ti wont drop shut when lock disengaged?

    1. After some breaking in time it drop shuts now.

  3. Sigh.. must resist temptation.. mind is weak! I use those 535 clones when foraging mushrooms and when fishing.. in urban enviroment Twosun TS81 (s90v/CF) has not left my pocket. I just love it! Not sure about the bm940 blade shape.. I do love titanium and axis locks though. Hows the edge retention? Real m390?

    1. I also like my Bugout clones. I even ordered the latest jade G10 limited edition version too. :)
Regarding the edge retention of the BM940Ti so far so good.

  5. Do you know how to remove the thumb stud on the beketen BM940? I want to sharpen the blade but the thumb stud is in the way. Normally you’d use two t6 drivers but it doesn’t look like an option here

    1. Sorry, I have no idea. I thought it had a torx head.
Maybe it could be done by using two pliers with rubber pieces to prevent scratching the thumb stud.

  6. Hi,
I bought BM 940 clone (green alu scales) it claims S30V.
    No way Jose!
When sharpening it feels like ordinary Chinese 440 (like Ganzo). Real S30V just glides over the stone. This just sharpen like every other Chinese knife.

    1. Hi, These are clones. They also copy the blade steel markings. Most of these cheap clones come with 8Cr.. or 9Cr.. type blade steels. I bought the BM940Ti because the seller claimed it had real M390 blade. In the $70-$100 category there's a chance that it's real. I guess my cheap BM940 clones (FRN and G10 handle) come with 8Cr14MoV blade which is acceptable in that price range.

      Delete
    2. The thing is I bought it from the same seller (same listing) as the 940Ti. I though if the 940Ti is real M390 as advertised, then 940alu might be real S30V as advertised.
Spark spectrometer is probably only way to know for sure.

    3. If you want to play a sure game go for the new Micarta version of the Kizer Sliver with real S35VN blade (or the alu version). It's on sale at the moment so that's the cheapest folder with real S35VN blade on Aliexpress I'm aware of.
I couldn't resist the sleek & compact design so I ordered one for myself too! :)

  7. I ordered a Coldsteel AD10 knockoff (same basics as the Recon 1 above) to compare to my real AD10. COULDNT COMPARE!!!

The tri-ad lock was totally wrong constructed and the knife had immense lockrock. Even if there wasn't lockrock, the tri-ad only worked as a backlock, because the design wasn't good.

    Beware.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I also have an AD10 clone and it also has some slight vertical blade-play. That doesn't make me happy but since both of my original Spyderco Enduras also have a slight vertical blade-play I can live with that at this price.

On the other hand I'm quite happy with the Recon 1 clone although it has a slight vertical blade-play too. All of my Cold Steel clones (AD-10, AD-15, XL Voyager) I like the Recon 1 the most. I hope they managed to implement the tri-ad lock properly at the new Code 4 clone. I have one of those in the mail. :)

  8. Engraved SAK scales, that's nice. Did you install them yourself or get it done?
Afaik Victorinox is very serious agains modders that say that it's a Vic.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thank you! I installed them myself, it was a complete rebuild.

Victorinox lacks innovation regarding handle scales, although they could offer the most competitive prices for handle versions made of titanium, brass, copper, CF, G10 etc... Maybe the only exception is the new 2020 winter magic special edition line.

      Delete
    2. Was it difficult to rebuild it?

Hmm, somehow yes, but they offer so many variants that it could be too much to keep the prices this low if they'd change their business model.
Afaik they work together with SwissBiancho for customized knives but are very strict on anyone else selling custom parts. You can never mention Victorinox or use their shield, even a simple cross can get their lawyers' attention. Not nice, but it seems to work out for them.

      Delete
    3. You have to take your time if you want a neat, precisely built product at the end. Snapping the back springs in place could be tricky too.

IMO they could cover the 90% of their product line by providing new handle materials for the standard 58 - 84 - 91 - 93 mm sizes.

      Delete
    4. Did you have to drill out the rivets? Is there a youtube video that you followed or is it simple enough?

And well, write them, ask them about it, you never know what happens.
I thing though that they are quite happy with their printed special versions. Maybe they have the feeling that they don't want to make the knife too expensive, like that it could push people away. BS in my opinion but I'm not running a business so I have no real clue ;)

      Delete
    5. You have to drill out the rivets. You can do it without any video but using a drill press is highly recommended + you have to hold the knife in place firmly.

Yes, they represent their plain printed plastic special versions as a unique & exclusive achievement every year! :))

The bottom of the bottom of their PR/Marketing was when they announced a photo contest & give away on IG for their new line of I.N.O.X watches and at the end it turned out that all of the chosen winners applied with photos containing a Victorinox I.N.O.X watch! Basically if you hadn't had a Victorinox INOX watch yet there was zero chance to win one on that GAW but they forgot to mention that at the rules. So they gifted away INOX watches for persons who already had one. Does it make sense for you? That was the moment when I gave up on them.

  9. The only Vic I have is a 58 mm version I found some years ago and a kid's knife with rounded tip.
The aluminum liners on the older one had some bubbles and it was dirty as heck but after a good clean it's working quite well. I wouldn't waste a pair of scales on it though.

I always liked the look of the alox Pioneers or better one with the small recurve blade but I'm not in the mood to spend 30Fr on a knife that I won't use a lot. Still no original clip, something that even Otter knives managed to do with their Mercator line (still an ugly clip), Vic says, people like the centuries old leather holster. Guess what, it's true to most Swiss people.
Many carry a Vic folder while hiking, always in such an ugly belt bag or on a chain.
Who cares :P After buying that amazingly good SRM 9306 I'm kind of out of the buying loop and concentrate on my leather skills. Even glad a bit when I can go to work again to continue on myleather pocket and stand for a miniature mantel clock. Nobody will value it as much as myself, still it's fun to make.
Satellite on a Siri remote anyone? :P
You see both here, the mantel clock's leather stand has changed a bit though:

    1. Nice branding for the watch! :)
How did you made those giant dollar coasters?

      Delete
    2. Yes, now I just wish I found a nice men's watch, usually it's things like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/124501204371
Maybe that cage was useful in some cases but to me it's just plain ugly.

Anyways. I just found that 3 inch coin on ricardo.ch, a kind of Swiss ebay but without the security of payment :P
It's not a direct magnification as you'd see on some details. Later I found that these are sold as magicians gadgetry for coin tricks (There's also very tiny cents to buy for example)
There's new ones from China but they look extremely cheap.
If shipping wasn't so expensive I'd get a whole set and maybe this one:
      https://www.ebay.com/itm/383658998010

So as usually I cast a die with our compund and pressed it into leather, simple as that. As if it ever was :P
I even cast a negative with our silicone that we use to seal gypsum casts before pouring expanding resin into it. Man, that stuff takes every imperfection and the blue compound does the same from the silicone.
Donno what I should do with 3in Kennedy Dollar but I'll make one. With the same spot on it as on the "original" ;)
