  1. Green thorn just came out with a Lochsa clone with S90V steel on Aliexpress. Too bad it's $380. Maybe it'll go on sale at some point.

    1. That's the first Green Thorn with S90V blade, nice!

Kanedeiia has come out with a new super light weight Shirogorov Neon Zero variant with D2 blade (satin / stone washed) and titanium handle. As I see that has more chance to end up in my hands than the GT Lochsa at the moment. :)

      Delete
    2. Oh man, that Kanedeiia Neon looks so sick. That’s gonna be hard to pass up. I bought one of their Micarta F3s annd the action is phenomenal. I wonder if they are made in the same factory as Kevin John knives

      Delete
    3. That Neon Zero is at the top of my wishlist.
The new Green Thorn Quantum is also sweet! :) Better pics here.

      Delete
    4. Kanedeiia is definitely not done at the same Factory as KJ.
While yours had phenomenal action, mine did not. Action was gritty and had some lock stick out of the box. after some cleaning, grittiness is gone and lock stick it minimal but still a bit there.
Also, action is not as good as any of my F95 from GT or Bear Claw.
So I think with Kanedeiia it might be hit or miss.

The Quantum is nice but I prefer Lovocoo version because it has a Ti backspacer.

I get that the Neon Zero looks like the original but I personally find it a bit too plane.

GT quality is great, but they have been taking advantage of western people being suckers for famous designs and steel snobs.
For example, F95 in D2 is $70, same F95 in M390 is $300, surely there is no $270 difference in raw material between the 2.
They are charging $400 for the Loscha because people (not me) will buy it at this price. They could have sold it for $250 and would still be making a profit but why do that if people will pay that amount.
As an example, I loved the F7 since the day it came out over 2 years ago, price was $300 and people bought it at this price and though it was a good deal. I waited 2 years for the to release a D2 variant which would have sold below $100 but they never did. This past 11.11, I bought this same knife that was selling for $300 for $161 (before coupon code). At this price, AE makes money, seller makes money and GT still makes money.
Bottom line, GT sells at the price people are willing to pay.

Anyway, enough of a rant LOL!
On a side note, the same manufacturer that brought the Shamwari clone in November and also the Fischer Battle will be releasing a Cultrotech Svarn 2, Pena Trapper and 3" Shamwari.
      https://www.reddit.com/r/chineseknives/comments/epdip8/photo_from_smke_soon_very_soon/
If the quality is any bit as good as the 3.5" Shamwari, I am definitely down for the Pena trapper, I will think about the 3" Sham, and the Svarn 2 will be to expensive for my pocket atm, I'll probably wait for the next 11.11 to think about it.

      Delete
    5. I prefer the GT Quantum because it's much more detailed compared to the Lovocoo / Dicoria version. Although I'm not sure about the material of its backspacer.

The Neon Zero would make a nice pair with my GT F95 Nudist! :)

So are you happy with your F7? It's still on my wishlist.

The Pena Trapper and the Cultrotech Svarn 2 clones have been released. I'm quite tempted by the Trapper. What's the difference between the two versions? Size? They are listed with the same specs.

      Delete
  2. Yeah, I didn't get the F95 Nudist for the same reason I won't get the Zero LOL! I guess some like it, some don't.
I love the F7, it's incredibly well machine and the action is amazing as expected from GT. The only "cons" once could possibly find is that when the blade is closed, if you really try, you can touch the blade where the landing pad is and also the tip. Not sure if it's the same on the orginal and I'll never know, LOL!
From what I can see, the only difference between the 2 listings are the color of the body screws, silver or black.
I'll definitely pull the trigger on the Trapper at some point, maybe the next AE sale (if I remember correctly, AE usually has a sale around Feb/March) but I'll be getting the damascus version, which, according the the reddit dedicated to Chinese knives, should be posted either today or tomorrow.
Here's a low resolution glimpse for you to start drooling ;)

    1. Thanks for the info! I'm looking for the next sale just when I thought I could stop buying new knives for a while! :))

      Delete
  3. that trapper sure looks nice, pretty close to the Reate original. I'm always a little hesitant to buy chinese damascus blades, you never know what they make it out of or how good their lamination technique is. I'll probably buy the D2 Trapper. I guess they decided not to copy the washers of the Swarn II and used bearings instead. probably for the better.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. According to what I read, the core of the damascus is VG10, same as all his models with damascus.
The smoothness of the original Svarn on washers is pretty hard to achieve and probably why they went with bearings instead.
Although, my GT Buster is on washers and as smooth as can be ;)

      Delete
    2. The Damascus Trapper is now listed on AliExpress for $133, $50 more than the D2 version. I wonder if you guys think if is worth the extra money?

      Delete
    3. It is a big jump for sure. I would have taken it for $20 more, but for an extra $50 I'll need to think about it, might end up just getting the D2, although the damascus would fit the style of this classy knife very well :(

      Delete
    4. I don't buy anything over $100 unless it has "M390", "S90V" or "titanium integral" in its name! ;)

For $133 I expect something like THIS.

      Delete
    5. Sounds like they will be coming out with a Svarn 2 with VG10 Damascus. I am tempted

An engraved Swiss cross would make it perfect ;)

  6. Oh, that's G10 not AL, maybe I must get one and try a gitd insert.

    1. Yes, some sort of cross pattern would look great on these.

  7. Oh, I wish they'd make this one a front flipper, the round pivot area is asking for that.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. A front flipper variatin would be nice but for me the standard flipper is more convenient to use.

      Delete
    2. True, but then the flipper nose is in the way.
I don't really like guards on my edc knives.
A seperated flipper tab, maybe like in the Kershaw Overdrive knives, would be great.

      Delete
    3. Fortunately the handle is big enough thanks to its straight forward shape.

  8. Hm, well, I wanted to save a bit for a Mouse 3 but this one is easier to justify these days.
Which one would you choose, Bugout Alu or this one?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. At the moment I like the streamlined design of the Kesiwo flipper more. Although they weight the same (70g), the Bugout Alu is bigger and it also comes with a thinner blade (2.2 mm vs. 3.1 mm).

      Delete
    2. So the Bugout has the thinner blade? Sounds good to me. Toi bad there's no red variant, i really like the color on the kesiwo

      Delete
    3. Is there only the choice between black or stonewashed blade? No satin with alu handle? Often I found painted or tumbled blades to be B grade in grind.

      Delete
  9. Only the blue plain edge FRN handle version comes with dual tone satin finished blade.
There's also a new exclusive G10 version with satin finished VG10 blade HERE.

    1. I didn't like the up swept - trailing point blade style. I also was a but concerned about cutting myself by that needle point tip during opening - closing (it comes with a quite strong spring).

  13. Has there been a clone of a spyderco shaman produced by anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  14. How's the fluted titanium Native? I couldn't grab one but I remember reading some mixed reviews concerning f&f. I would like to see a good Native Chief clone. The original is way overpriced imo.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. They look absolutely stunning. I have two of them. The 1st one came with a very tiny crack in one of the titanium scales so the seller sent me a 2nd one. The 1st one had a very strong lock spring bar which I replaced with a weaker one for a better opening/closin action. The 2nd one arrived in perfect condition with a weaker lock spring bar.

So I have the luxury of having a user and a safe queen titanium Native at the moment. :)

Yes, I would also welcome a decent Native Chief, a Native lightweight and a Shaman clone too.

    2. Great customerservice! Speaking of which...I received the Stedemon Zodiac after almost 4 months. I already got a refund so I'm hesitating to contact the seller because I feel a bit sorry for them. On the other hand I've experienced some tiresome disputes in the past. Even contacted my cc company to sort things out. Maybe they're covered by some sort of insurance idk. Maybe I'm a bit too cheeky in these weird ultra pc times, but I'm glad I received something from China for free, which doesn't effect my older familymembers ;) Btw...the Zodiac is perfecto! Also got the GT Lee in the meantime. Not as great as the Piston flipper but very good considering the price

      Delete
    3. You're the lucky one! :)
If you have time you should take a couple of pics of the Zodiac and the Lee side by side. It would be interesting.

      Delete
  15. Ps: the Zodiac didn't arrive sharp (I mean Cold Steel/Twosun sharp, the way I like it). Luckily reprofiling isn't necessary but sharpening cts-204p is really a pain. I've only sharpened 1 knife with this steel (a Rike D9-SW) which was sharp on arrival. But not ocd mirror edged like I wanted. Jesus F. Christ it took a while. Yeah. I love sharpening ;)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. At least it's real CTS-204P! :) What sort of system do you use for sharpening?
I have diamond stones upto #2000, so every thing is possible! :)

    2. Just a Sharpmaker (also with ultra fine rods) and strop. It works fine for me. I'll take them apart and take some pics next week. Have a nice weekend!

    4. Thank you for sharing! I believe the Lee Kickstop is slower than the Piston because of its massive blade size.
Anyway have you seen the new high-end version of the GT Kickstop with M390 blade? It looks bad@ss!

      Delete
    5. Yeah, they've updated the pivot, back spacer and flipper tab to more resemble the original, and...... it has ROLLER BEARING!
      The price though.....
As I said many times before, the deals on GTs are imo on their D2 models. If one absolutely wants M390 they'll just have to pay triple the price of the same knife in D2 (well, not in this case, but in general)
The only GT that I got in M390 was the F7 and that's just because they never released in D2 and I got it for a reasonable price 2 years after its release.

      Delete
    6. Funny thing is that, besides the blade, the hardware is exactly the same. Except for the F7 and the shiny F95cf. Somehow their D2 models are WAY thinner behind the edge. To the point of barely noticeable when sharpened 15°. I only saw this level of grinding on Rike, Stedemon and Kevin John (especially m390 Venom 2)

      Delete
    7. I wish they made the D2 version of the Lee with the same blade & handle finish as the M390 version.

    3. You're welcome! That's a good sized beauty! :)

You should have a look at the various Petrified Fish models in that store too. I really love my PF818 and PF838, they represent excellent value for the money.

    3. Which version do you have satin or stone washed? I have two in satin. :)

    4. One of each actually :) Blue scales. I think I prefer stone washed for the 818
