My GT Mouse 3 has arrived! :)
GT can't stop amaze me with the top notch quality and F&F of their products. The Mouse 3 is not an exception either with its impeccable fit & finish and super smooth action out of the box. The attention to details is outstanding: perfect detent strength, smooth lines, chamfered edges, fine stone washed finish and a hidden steel lock-bar insert/limiter just to mention a few.
Have a look at my short video about the action HERE

  1. Do you know what the knives the GT Rat and GT Mini Persian are based on of?

  2. Really, Green Thorn? Just like when they released an Anax 2 years after Wild Boar, they now come up with a Tech-no a Sebensoso and a plain Y-Start-ish folder? No doubt the quality is great but it's way too dull for my taste. I like the Sigma though...maybe they'll drop a cf D2 version in the near future ;)

    1. The GT Anax with integral titanium handle and S35VN blade is at least two classes above the plain Jane Wild Boar version.

Marcin Slysz has pretty good designs, even Spyderco collaborated with him several times. The Overkill is also a design coveted by many collectors. Just to balance your statements. ;)

  3. I love my Techno and Bowie clones. But I'm still a little bit disappointed by GT's new releases. On the other hand: for each his own.

    1. At least they didn't release the n+1 variant of the F95 or the Hati this time which is a good sign. Hopefully they will copy something more dramatic next time. I want Maglock Oeser Tengu for the people! :)

      Delete
    2. While those releases are OK, still waiting for GT to make a Koenig Arius clone..... Given the popularity of the knife, I think those would sell well.

      Delete
    3. It took 2 years for GT to release their own version of the Sigma after the very first budget version appeared on Ali. So there's a chance for the Arius too.

  4. They should do a Slysz bowie in XHP!

    1. A D2 version of the Slysz Bowie was available which was pretty good.

  5. Problem with GT and other chinese guys is that they don't do a faithful copy. Overkill is hollow ground with recurve which is now flat ground w/o recurve. Personally I don't mind removing recurves but removing hollow grinds are a no-no . IFS-20 was also hollow which became flat ground.

All shiro clones (at least the D2 ones) are thicker behind the edge than respective shiros.

    1. I have I guess the Wild Boar version of the Overkill with recurved hollow ground blade which I really like. Although this new Green Thorn version looks more detailed according to the pics.

    2. I like the wild boad design.

  7. Seems odd that half of these don't have lockbar inserts, GT usually make a point of improving upon these designs with lockbar inserts when they do their clones.

If only they posted photos of the internals or a completely disassembled knife so you don't have to buy one just to figure out whats inside it.

    1. Because of the stupid Aliexpress policy about locking blades the sellers are very careful about posting pics of the locks.

A Mouse 3 with opening hole is on its way to me. I'll post wether it has a steel lockbar insert or not.

      Delete
    2. I prefer the flipper Mouse. Maybe it could replace my modded Malyshev Gnome. Time will tell.

      Delete
    3. I was about to order the flipper Mouse (because it comes with a better looking and more detailed handle) then I changed my mind. The firm manual opening is more important for me than the flashy flipper.

      Delete
    4. I don't really like holes in the blade and the clip on the flipper version is more appealing to me. The groove seems to be good for twohand opening with civilians around ;)
On top of my list there's the TS164 and TS169 or the SRM 9165 if the budget says so. But the super thin blade behind the edge of the TS164 makes me wanna have that one the most atm

    5. My GT Mouse3 has arrived and it has steel lock-bar insert! :) Have a look at my quick video HERE.

    1. The green thorn is actually a clone of the shirogorov Russian overkill which showed up at blade 2019

  9. There’s also a new GT Neon in D2 with titanium handle with G10 inlay. Looks very nice. I have the Overkill on the way. The lock insert on the Overkill looks very faithful to the original.

    1. Looks like they misspelled it as Green Thorn Noen if you search AliExpress

      Delete
    2. Thanks for the info!
The new Green Thorn Neon looks even better than the renowned Vespa version! I'm afraid I must have one! :)

      Delete
    3. The GT Neon does look really nice, it will be hard to resist.
But I have to agree, CF instead of G10 for like $10 more would have been insta buy.

      Delete
    4. Also, a F95 with this overlay pattern in CF would be nice ;)

      Delete
    5. After a little practice with the drill press you can have one based on THIS. ;)

      Delete
    6. For that pattern you'd need a milling machine or do the milling with steady hands (well beyond my experience btw).
On the other hand the milling on this Neon is a bit overdone imho, a simple CF slab could be a good idea.

      Delete
  10. Neon would be a purchase for me if it was carbon fiber rather than G10. Ill pass on the G10 though. Looks nice.

    1. I’m surprised Green Thorn has not listed higher end versions of the Overkill and Neon. They usually have more expensive versions of their knives with more premium materials and M390 steel

      Delete
    2. and when they come out with a premium version with M390 blade suddenly every one starts whining for a budget D2 variant. :))

      Delete
    3. But Sandvik steel is soo much better. You know, cos of reasons, in cold Sweden you get a better quenching result than in hot Asia or Florida, c'mon, everybuddyknows that.
And my Sega Saturn by the way was much better than that evil PlayStation and and and my choice is always !!!1! the right one and the righteous one, of course. Amen

    4. TwoSun has released a bunch of folders with 12C27 and 14C28N blades. That's the new trend! :)

      Delete
    5. I like my TS51 in D2, I wouldn't mind 14C28N neither.
All the high end stuff is making the knives too expensive for my taste but I stay away from 8Cr1xMoV, Aus8 and such.
Btw, what's going on with the TwoSun TS160? It says it's a slipjoint but also a seatbelt cutter? With all the photoshopped pictures it's hard to say if it's a design element or meant to have a function...

      Delete
    6. 12C27 (14C28N) is the new D2 too! :))
Most of the time my 8Cr13MoV blades get more use than my fancy ones. Telling the truth I even enjoy using my low budget folders more than my pricey ones.

That's not a seatbelt cutter on the TS160 for sure! It seems like a sort of additional lock to me which doesn't make too much sense on a slip-joint...

      Delete
    7. Before I rediscovered my TiLock with its new clip I used my SRM812 the most at home. It dulls quickly but my CF scales are great and the size is just perfect for me. I also enjoy the (polished) washers in it, sometimes bb's are just feeling a bit too quick while closing.

      Delete
  11. I love that Two Sun is moving away from D2 and towards Sandwik. I wouldn't mind even properly done 9cr or 440c over D2

  12. does anyone nows how well the flipper mouse flips ? the tabs seems to be quite small, bite this GT mouse variant looks better than the "Technoesque" Looking one with the hole in my opinion

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I was not sure about the flipper either that's why I went for the version with the opening hole. Based on my experience with the opening hole version (perfect detent strength, super smooth action) the flipper variant action could be also great.

  13. Thinking about getting the flipper Mouse. How thick is the blade right behind the edge?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow, not bad. Maybe I'll get a good price at 11/11...

    ReplyDelete
  15. received my GT Overkill. very impressed. I really like that the show side of the handle has no screws. The overtravel stop is pretty unique in that the screw for the steel insert is screwed on from the inside of the lock bar. There is a very fine milling pattern on the handle that adds some character to it. only thing I wish it had is a titanium backspacer. This one has a G10 backspacer.

    1. The pocket clip also looks very stylish. How do you like it?

      Delete
    2. The pocket clip has a ton of detail and sculpting. its a beefy pocket clip so its pretty stiff. I like it. I'll probably also pick up the GT Neon during the 11.11 sale. that one also has a unique looking pocket clip with a lot of milling on it.

      Delete
    3. Did you get the screw tool needed to take it apart with the knife?

      Delete
    4. Yep, came with a double ended tool for the pivot screw and smaller handle screws. nice touch from Green Thorn.

      Delete
  16. I'm craving that Technoclone in hindsight. Knowing GT, the finish would be great. Do I need it? No. So...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Boy oh boy oh boy...sorry for being a bit off topic but the full ti ts138 is something else. That Wong is a genius. It's overbuilt, hydraulically smooth and gorgeous. In spite of what some people say on fora, the thumb studs are very functional when opening with grip on the back of the handle. If you use the flipper your hand/finger naturally goes towards the choil. This is a unique and functional piece. Just saying ;)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Aren't those giant thumb studs in the way during cutting? Otherwise it looks nice.

  18. I've contacted the seller about a discount like at the last sale for the Green Thorn Mouse 3 and he said there will be another sale in 3 days.
So I guess I will be ordering the flipper version soon ;)

    1. Great! I'm still happy with my opening hole version.

      Delete
    2. I would like to replace my Malyshev Gnome with it. Even though I've reground the blade to a similar shape it could be thinner behind the edge. I'm just not sure if I like the blasted blade, reminds me of my spotty Kershaw blades...

      Delete
  19. Btw, is there smth similar maybe from TwoSun or so?

    1. The TS230 and the TS68 come to my mind.
I hope Green Thorn will use 14C28N too in their budget line.

      Delete
    2. I guess it will be the flipper Mouse. Close enough to my Gnome with a better and thinner blade shape. Of course I must add a lanyard hole and some sort of anodizing, maybe orange peel finish. Without modding it wouldn't be my knife, would it? ;)

      Delete
    3. You're absolutely right! :)

    4. Ordered :P
Even though it's a bit complicated when you have the sum on your Paypal and realize that there's still no pp on AliExpress...

    5. Don't forget to let me know about your modding plans when it arrives. :)

    6. It was a mistake having a look at the Green Thorn sale! :) The big GT Shirogorov - Lee Williams Kickstop flipper is also on sale HERE. It's the best price so far so I'm seriously tempted.

      Delete
    7. Too big for my taste. I'd be tempted by the Neon if the milled insert was CF instead of G10.
And well, I want to drill a hole into the backspacer and mill two arcs to make space for the lanyard. Time will tell how much I'll mod afterwards

      Delete
  20. Ok, after a saving for a couple of months I've ordered the kickstop. Looks awesome and I love the size.
Btw the Frank Fisher Battle clone is my currend favourite. I have the s35vn (no doubts, very good steel) version and the quality is on par with Rike.

    Replies
    1. I need an excuse to order that GT KickStop! :)
The Fischer Battle clone is also on sale. The blade shape is quite extravagant. How is its cutting performance?

      Delete
  21. Excellent out of the box. I could slice my Mascotte extra thin rolling paper. That's pretty extraordinary. It also looks much better in person. No loctite needed for the pivot so far. And I flip this thing a lot. I mean a lot ;)

    2. I like that Trapper front flipper. Good that I've spent my knife budget already :p

      Delete
    3. Those "Pena" Trappers are pretty sleek especially with the damascus blade. Life is full of temptations! :))

    4. I think I will try entropic anodizing on a workmate's Fura water ripple knife. It's polished already so it should work well.

      Delete
    5. Do you mean dipping the heated titanium slabs into ferric chloride?

      Delete
    6. Exactly. I have ferric chloride and a torch job and my job student wanted to have his knife reanodized. Sounds like a win-win to me ;)

    7. Yes, that will be a good experiment for you. :)
I was also thinking about trying this mod but I changed my mind. I guess it would be too blingy for my taste.

      Delete
    8. That's why I try it on the already bling bling knife first.
And then maybe on my TiLock.
I just wish I had a way to get an orange peel on that one in only a small area but with a groove around it. Hmm, we'll see.

  22. Still waiting for the Stedemon Zodiac though. Tracking status has been the same for 3 weeks now. I hope they didn't ship mouth masks in the same container ;)

    1. I also have a couple of packages in transit for a while. I suppose I can calculate with at least a 2 week delay.

      Delete
  23. I've got my GT Mouse 3 and even though it's not a real fidget knife due to the small flipper tab it's very well made. Actually I think a slightly longer clip would be good as a resting place for the middle finger so it wouldn't block the locking arm.
Anyways, tomorrow it will be my work knife, just as intended.
For fidgeting I've ordered a used Boker Urban Trapper in G10 with a broken clip. It will get CF scales and clip if I won't be able to get a replacement clip from Boker.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Congratulations! Don't forget to post a couple of side by side photos as soon as the Boker arrives.

      Delete
    2. In one month I can do that. P+p to CH would be €30,so it will wait for me st my German shipping address.
The clip on the mouse was too tight so I sanded down the hump, now it's great. It's less than 4mm behind the edge and has a slight recurve at the tip. Maybe a sharpening flaw but perfect for my needs, so I'll try to keep it that way.
So the good points for me are the thin blade, the size/weight and the overall design, the neutral one is the missing lanyard hole which I'll might add to the backspacer.
The negative is, as you guessed, the flipper and the bead blasted blade. I like the flipper but it would work better on a liner lock/sub-framelock knife or with a longer clip acting as a finger rest for the middle finger.

Anyways, for $50 it's great workhorse, if TwoSun would make it with their detent ramp, O-rings at the pivot and their wonderful satin finish it would be perfect.

      Delete
    3. I was a bit concerned about that mini flipper that's why I went for the other version. With a 14C28N stonewashed blade it would be perfect! :) I don't feel the need of a detent ramp at mine.

Anyway I recommend to have a look at the new Real Steel Phasma Free. It's such a neat design!

      Delete
    4. That's a nice little knife indeed but with the Mouse and the Urban Trapper I'm done with knives for this year.
And I don't "need" a detent ramp but it makes fidgeting more comfortable.
I will deepen the one I made already as it's not 100% perfect, yet ;)
Btw, flipping this knife works best in the cigarette lighter mode :)
