    1. Thanks a lot! :) It was a quite easy and quick mod although I had to order the RIT Dye from eBay.

  2. Nice mod indeed. When I saw the picture I thought it's a new official color.
I never really liked Urban camo, your one is liiking much better imo.

I had to go to bus for 3 weeks when the car died on us so I had to make a clip for my TiLock. The clip must've fallen down on job when I played with the knife and the job student wiped it into the bin. I had a Ti rod that I used with other Ti pieces as a cathode for anodizing which was thick enough, in the middle.
I guess I ground away like 90% of the original material which is a tough job with titanium. Aynways, it was a good grinding training even though there's not much visible of that due to the orange peel surface which I like for the added grip.

Next question, what color for knife and clip and should the knife get an orange peel, too?

    1. The new clip looks really nice! I think a bronze / golden anodized clip would match the green scales nicely. I would leave the scales as they are without the orange peel finish.

    1. The Odin for $115 is a pretty good deal. Unfortunately I limited myself to the sub $50 category for the rest of the year because of financial reasons. ;)
I'm quite tempted by the Benchmade 417 Fact clone with FRN handle and the new G10 version of the Lochsa.
Do you still like your BM Fact clone?

      Delete
  5. Yes, it is a good deal, but I think I'll pass, I have to be reasonable. The hardware looks a bit like the Piston btw. As a matter of Fact, the 417 is one of my favourites. My go to office edc (rotates with the CH Zieba, Sealion, BM940 clone and currently the Twosun TS81, which is a bit large for office people and not suited for vegetarians). The quality of the one I've got has to be on par with a real one (never handled one). Hardly noticeable, deep carry clip, light and VERY sturdy. Make sure you get the g10 version. You'll love it.

  6. Is the lock interface on blade angled on Crocked River like the Bugout or flat like Contego?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's angled on the Crooked River. I thought that was the standard for every axis-lock clone.

  7. Wow. Those pics really make me want to get a blue alu Bugout....

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks! Since only the FRN version has dual tone (satin with stone washed flats) blade and bright blue thumb studs you must order that along with the alu version in order to achieve the perfect blue mega blast feeling! :))

      Delete
    2. I kind of hate you right now.
If I go that route I better get the flipper Mouse3.
Hmm, I doubt sellers would swap blades for me...

    3. That is only a small sacrifice to have a unique true blue Bugout! ;))

  8. Pretty sure that the steel is not s30v.. cr something maybe?

    1. As I know the more expensive BM clones (710, Contego etc.) come with D2 blade and the cheaper ones come with 440C.

Anyway I'm happy with my Bugout clones. They perform pretty well at my usual daily tasks.

      Delete
  9. I would definitely buy aluminium Bugout, but without original logo on the blade. So far i didnt find version without logo on ali.

Anyway, please help me decide which one should i pick of these:

    1. CH Emperor S35vn
    2. Sanrenmu Land 910 Titanium M390
    3. Shamwari clone M390

So far i like Sanrenmu most ... :)

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't know about a sterile Bogout either (on the other hand the Proper has a sterile version).

That's a tough decision. According to the look / appearence I would go for the grey CH Emperor or Shamwari homage (there are already 4 versions! :)). For practicality and clean design I'd order the Sanrenmu Land 910T2 titanium M390.
I already have its smaller version the Sanrenmu Land 812 (titanium handle with VG10 blade) and I'm quite happy with it.

To make your decision even harder I recommend to have a look at the new TwoSun TS139 Barracuda with titanium/CF handle and S90V blade. I'm quite tempted to order it during the forthcoming black friday sale. :)

      Delete
    2. That TwoSun TS139 Barracuda is really amazing design. Although, according to the photo, it looks like theres no standart stop-pin. And if Ti scales works as stop pin, it can deform easily over time. Imagine you put a pressure on the tip of the blade while cutting something, then all your force goes against Ti scales that works as stop-pin of the blade. Or am i missing something ?

      Delete
    3. The stop pin could be simply covered by the carbon fiber scales. Imagine the SRM 710 and put a slab of CF on it, no more visible pin.

      Delete
    4. I haven't seen a disassembled photo of the TS139 yet but designs like this usally have some sort of hidden / internal stop pin.

      Delete
    5. I asked the designer just for sure. It has an internal stop pin attached to the blade.

  11. Damit, I have that 2sunLazer (tm) in my ebay list for a while but never pulled the trigger. Maybe I should...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It's an excellent compact design, even the pocket clip is very good. So no mods needed except some anodization in the future. :)

      Delete
    2. Cool. Would be interesting to see if the rubbed off area takes some color, I think bronze or blue would look the best.

      Delete
    3. I think that would be the easiest anodization mod since they say it's very hard to remove that black washed finish completely.

      Delete
    4. I actually like that finish but I must admit I'd like to have the choice to get the milled grey surface

      Delete
    5. If you'd have to decide between the Mouse3 and the TS164, what would you choose?

      Delete
    6. That's a tough choice! The TS164 is more practical (better blade steel, longer cutting edge and grip area) but it lacks the super smooth opening fidget and stunning pocket jewelry factor of the Mouse3. You could also choose based on the opening method (2 hand vs. 1 hand)...

      Delete
    7. How about the main grind? I was reading the Twosun comes with 3-4mm behind the cutting bevel, how about the mouse? (I hate it when I have to regrind a blade so it seems I need a figety knife with a lazer edge ;) )

      Delete
    8. I measured 0.35 - 0.4 mm behind the edge at the Mouse.

      Delete
    9. Well then, if i can buy another knife it will be the flipper Mouse ;)

      Delete
    10. Is it only available on Aliexpress? I still have some dhgate coupons even though I've ordered there only twice iirc.

  12. Do you know anything about these Grimsmo Norseman clones that are listed for $300. Came across this on DHGate. They are calling themselves Hilsberg custom knives based out of Hong Kong. Looks close to the real thing. here is the link:

  13. Saw another interesting listing on DHgate. It's for a genuine Gareth Bull Shamwari for $3000. I think the listing is just a place holder and the price is to discourage people from actually buying it. The description is claiming that the current Shamwari clones from SMKE are "junk" and made of "fake M390." This seller says they will release a high end Shamwari clone with real M390 and more faithful internal structure in 30 days. Should be interesting.

    1. Wow it looks awesome! Unfortunately for $300 it`s out of my budget.

      Delete
    2. Yea, I agree. $300 for a clone is a bit too much. Your video convinced me to buy the Green Thorn Marcin Slycz Mouse and Mini persian. I was blown away by the quality at $60. They had perfect centering, detent, and action. And D2 is a perfectly adequate steel. At this point, I don't care much about "super steels" any more.

      Delete
    3. Same here. After having a couple of Green Thorns in titanium - D2, all folders over $100 seem heavily over priced! :)

  15. New high end Gareth Bull Shamwari clones are up on DHGate from seller Cloneknives1. Two versions available, plain handle with M390 blade at $248 and patterned handle with hand rubbed satin blade at $268. Both have $15 off coupons. You have a choice of 5 colors for pivot collar.
