  1. That Swindle would be cool with titanium handles or if the steel ones would be hollowed. My CRKT version is just too heavy for its size...

    1. According to the seller it weights 106 g which is not bad at all.
How much does your CRKT version weight?

    2. I guess it's the same.
If it had a usual clip it would be ok but this one is not working well in jeans or the like but great for sweatpants. In those it's too heavy though. My SRM 910+ is now below 100g so this smaller knife should be around 80g to be comfortable to carry.

  2. Swindle looks nice. How about heat treatment an chinese s35vn? Should I expect decent quality?

    1. I have a couple of Chinese folders with S35VN blade which perform quite well but those are more expensive (~ $100) folders. I don't know what to expect in this budget category. Anyway I'm about to order one so we'll see. :)

    2. Did you plan to order the Swindle?
It would be interesting to know if the backspacer on this version has the same sharp edge as on my CRKT version.
Somehow this seems to me like an unbranded nightshift batch but it lead me to carry this one again ;)

    3. I have one on the way to me. Some people like these sharp jimpings all over the knives. I prefer the smoother ones or no jimpings at all.

CRKT has most of their products made in China so there's a big chance for that.

    4. Well, I just broke the edge on that backspacer using my diamond file, it was just uncomfortable and not matching with the overall smoothness of this knife. I'm looking forward to hear your impressions :)

    5. Cool! Did you have to take it apart for that?
Do you have the same fluted version or the smooth one?

    6. I have the fluted version. If photofucket would still work, but maybe the folder link will do...

    7. It looks really elegant. I'm curious about this S35VN version, I hope it will arrive soon.

    8. By the way, bot versions are painted grey, that's why I acid etched and stonewashed the blade. It would be interesting if this version is painted, too. When I etched it, it showed the same damascus-like pattern as my Kershaw Leeks 12C27 blade, if you ever have a chance to test that and it would show the same pattern than that would be a strong clue for a nightshift version.

    9. Hello again. Did you have time to test the Swindle?
Is the blade sterile or does it have a CRKT billboard?

      Delete
    10. It's in the pipe line but I'll review the Double Bevel flipper and the Spydie Chef first. Except the "S35VN" text the blade is sterile. I took it apart for a quick cleaning and oiling now it flips smoothly.

    12. Rosewood Swindle? Let's see how long time the wood will last without cracking ;)

    13. Congratulations, it looks really nice! I suppose the weight - balance got much better too.

    14. K will check the weight today. About balance, well, it's like with every steel framelock with a CF or G10 front, you can feel that the steel part is heavier so it's not perfect for the balance.
It's better but a Ti Swindle would still be the best solution ;)

    15. So the weight of my rosewood Swindle is 78 grams at the moment which is okay.
The CRKT website says it's 3.3 oz (94 g), other websites say 110 g which I believe is closer to the truth.
I'm thinking about a regrind to full flat grind because I don.t like the spine's thickness when cutting an apple or even a piece of cake.

    16. It sounds promising. Let me know about the result.
      Mine weights 112 g.

    17. I guess mine was around that weight, too, so 78g is not that bad then ;)
Would be really interesting if the parts are interchangable as I believe this copy being a nightshift run but there's other knives I'd buy first.

    18. Replacing the backspacer with alu or G10 would improve the balance I suppose.

      Delete
    19. That tiny backspacer weighs close to nothing.
It's more that it always "falls" with the wooden side up which is ok as it's the pretty side anyways :P

    20. By the way, did you have a chance to test the edge retention on your copy? I might order one soon as I'm not sure how my flat grind experiment will work out eventually :P

    21. Not really, sorry. I'll go for a trip and I have to leave my knife collection behind for a while...

  3. I added the Swindle to my wish list a week ago based on its sleek gentlemanly look...but not sure if I will get it. I wasn't sure about the S35VN either for such a low price. Will definitely keep an eye out for your review. I just saw that spaceship too...it's pretty small with 3" blade and barely weighs 2oz. Were you thinking of getting one of those as well? :)

    1. Ok, I'll test the edge retention of the Swindle as soon as I receive mine.
The Turen Spaceship could be a nice gentleman's folder for sure. I'm tempted but my credit card needs a rest! :)
