New folders and knives on Aliexpress part 17

(Seller's pics)
Benchmade BM940 and BM943 copies with carbon fiber handle.
They weight only 66 g / 2.33 oz. (BM943) and 71 g / 2.5 oz.(BM940)!
You can buy the BM940 and BM943 on Aliexpress:
Because of a stupid rule of Aliexpress the sellers are forced to photoshop the locking mechanism and the "blood grooves" on the folders. So don't worry these folders come with a lock!

New version of the Kevin John Attacker with M390 blade steel.
It comes with ball bearings, titanium handle with CF scales and
a tritium vial in the pocket clip.
You can buy the Attacker on Aliexpress:

  2. Me too! :))
It's surprisingly light weight so it could be a great EDC.

  3. Love the weight of the BM clones.. I just don't buy the steel being s90v..

    1. It's probably the usual D2 or 9Cr18MoV.

    2. For me the question wouldn't be so much what kind of "super" steel it is but how it's ground. Often clones or hommages, like some Ganzos, have the same shape but the blades have a thicker blade stock and are not ground as fine as the original. I've seen that on the Ganzo 710 which is very far away from the fine blade of the Benchmade Rift.
The best steel is useless with a bad blade geometry but I don't see much sense in sharpened prybars anyways (even though some look cool ;) ).

And maybe you guys get lucky about the steel, the Zieba G2 clone seems to have a very good steel with a high hardness, ZDP189/65HRC, iirc smebody even tested it.

  4. I bit the bullet and ordered a 940. I messaged them and they insisted it was real S90V, for whatever that is worth

    1. I'm crossing my fingers for you. :)
Please let us know about the steel when it arrives.

    1. It is likely d2 as I saw another listing calling it d2.

  6. I'll be taking it to the machine shop where I used to work to give it a quick Rockwell hardness test, just for fun.

  7. Hum... feeling a 940 coming my way. Later, though, as I'm already waiting on quite a few knives.

  8. I have one of these fake Benchmade 940-1 knives on the way. I will try to keep my expectations realistic. Anyway, I strop my knives enough that all my knives stay sharp. Of course, if premium steel is desired at a reasonable cost, look at the House of Blades exclusive Kershaw 1776 Link with S35VN, which is made in the USA and very well made.

  9. I'm very interested in a review on the 940, esp. if someone can compare it to the real deal. This one and the new Mnandi stay on top of my wanna have list, maybe I can get one of them from xmas money...

  10. I got an end of year bonus, so there was no point waiting more and a 940 is on my way (as is a XM8 and a Magic Chav)
I never owned the real 940 but a friend of mine had one, so I'll see how it compares.

    1. The original BM940 with alu handle has been on my wishlist since it was introduced years ago but I never took the plunge to order it. So I look forward to your comparison. :)

That XM8 is heavily inspired by the Pena Diesel folder that's why I found it so familiar! :)

    2. Yep, I also noticed the Diesel inspiration in the XM8. It also draws from other customs, I'd say, but I can't really place them all. I've spent quite some time looking for "where the heck did I already see knives looking like that" ;)

As for the Benchmade, the 940 of my friend was in CF already, so even closer to the one I'll get!

    3. I also needed at least a couple of days to figure out. :)

  11. I ordered the 943 clone and will see how it compares to my genuine BM 940-1.

  12. My 940 has arrived in my city and should be at my house early this coming week. I'll share my impressions ASAP and hopefully get a Rockwell hardness test on the blade too just out of curiousity.

    2. Any update on the 940 yet?

    3. Have a look at the comments HERE. With a measured 60.5 HRC blade it's a quite good deal.
