(Seller's pics)
CKF Asymmetric budget edition with G10 + steel handle

You can buy the Asymmetric steel handle version on Aliexpress:

Because of a stupid rule of Aliexpress the sellers are forced to photoshop the locking mechanism on the folders. So don't worry these folders come with solid frame-locks!

  1. I am pretty sceptical about the recon tango being D2..

    1. I have the black handle version with satin balde and it's made of 9Cr18MoV. It's a bada$$ knife! :) The sheath is also excellent.
I'm planning to order the red handle version with black blade.

  2. 9cr18mov is a good steel for that price! I think I have to order it too. Do you know about the tang? Hopefully it's a full tang knife.

    1. I've tested mine with a magnet. The blade tang ends at the lanyard hole.

  3. I'd be interested in the Asymmetric at this price point (I haven't been able to convince myself to ditch the $135 or so that they are asking for the CF version) although it's pretty hard to see on the pics if the "asymmetric" details on the handle, frame and blade are there. It would such to get an Asymmetric without asymmetrical lines LOL!

    1. I can see the asymmetric shapes on the blade spine and on the back of the handle. So I pulled the trigger and ordered one. :)

    2. Yes you are right. Upon a closer look I can see it (at least on the blade). Any idea if it runs on bearings or washers?

    3. I have no idea but I'll let you know when mine arrives! :)

    4. One of the sellers confirmed that this cheaper Asymmetric also runs on bearings! :)

  4. Great, thanks for letting me know.
I'll wait to see what you think of it.

    1. Did you get yours?
I pulled the trigger yesterday after watching this Youtube review:

Seems to be one of those bargain gems.

    2. I've received mine and it's wow awesome!
It runs on bearings so it flips like a charm and it's shaving sharp out of the box!

  5. Hey,
Great thanks! I like the CKF Asymmetric budget edition, but can it be found on ebay or any store with paypal? (have no credid card for aliexpress)

  6. This Asymmetric is very good. The flipping is perfect. Fit and finish is fine except for the edges around the G-10 is a little sharp. Blade is shaving sharp out of the box. The design is not as practical as Shirogorov, but for$20, I will carry it just for fun. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to carry a big knife.

    1. It's like mine. It arrived shaving sharp and it's an excellent flipper thanks to the bearing pivot system. I'll round the edges of the G10 handle with a piece of sand paper and it'll be perfect.

    2. I had to sand the G10 handle too. Everything else is amazing for $20. I honestly cannot buy the $130 version now. The YouTube guy that did the review, Nikohard, should be given credit for bringing attention to this gem.

  7. Just received my recon tanto red/black. The sheath is a joke! There is not even the slightest bit of retention. You can't lift the knife without the sheath falling off. There is a strap ofc but still I don't like the idea that the strap is holding it in. Strap is used for securing, not holding.

    1. I went for the standard version (black handle + satin blade). Fortunately mine came with a perfect sheat with good retention.

I would try to make the sheath tighter after hanging in hot water.

  8. Hot water, you say? Like boiling water? Or faucet hot? Let it sit like a few minutes?

    1. Boiling water, I managed to make the sheath of my SOG Instinct Mini tighter that way. The first time you should try to squeeze it by a towel after 30 sec.

  9. I'Ll try this and will report the results.

  10. Well I tried the boiling water and it worked like a charm! Now the knife fits snuggly into the sheath! Thanks for the great advice, Isti :)
