Review: new outstanding Y-Start folders

The budget version of the Rexford Epicenter

After testing an awesome fixed blade from Y-Start I decided to try their new folders too. It was a good decision because they managed to produce unique high quality folders at a budget price.

Pros:
- stylish & sturdy folders with an excellent fit and finish
- solid lock-up without any blade play
- comfortable micarta handle with good ergonomics
- useful bladeshape with a nice stone washed or satin finish
- definite jimping on the blade spine
- symmetrical blade grinds (which is not common in this price range)

Cons:
- I rounded the edge of the liner-lock bar with my Dremel to make it more comfortable to unlock
- The satin version needed a couple of days to break in (smooth opening / closing)

I found the clip on the stone washed version too shiny for my taste so I modded it. I think a mat grey clip suits this version better.

  3. Man there isn't a knife you haven't reviewed! Thanks for having the best pictures of this knife on the web! This one caught my eye on DHGate after a search for "Rexford" and indeed the blade has Rexford on it. I like the steel bolster but the G10 is significantly lighter. Decisions...

    1. Thanks! :)
They used to sell these first with Y-start logo then with Rexford logo on Aliexpress. I guess because it's heavily influenced by the Rexford Epicenter. :)

  4. Oh BTW, how did you mod that clip? It's a perfect matte gray but looks like it would wear nicely like a black wash...

    1. Yes, that's my work. It's quite easy just search for tutorials about acid etching on youtube. It's very similar to a bead blasted finish so sooner or later it will show snail trails.
